Privacy Policy
We do not collect your data
Introduction
@Reminder ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the "App"). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the App.
Important: we do not collect your location data
We want to be completely clear: we do not collect, receive, or have access to any of your location-based data or personal information. All data you enter into the App, including location coordinates, contact information, and personal details, is stored exclusively on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account. We never receive this data.
Information stored locally
The following types of information are stored locally on your device and may be synced to your iCloud account (if you enable iCloud sync):
- Location data: geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) for locations you save
- Contact information: names, phone numbers, email addresses, and other contact details you enter
- Personal details: information about relationships, including spouse names and children's names
- Notes: any notes or additional information you choose to add about locations or contacts
Subscription information
Subscription purchase and status information is managed through Apple's App Store and StoreKit. We only receive anonymized subscription status information necessary to verify active subscriptions, but we do not receive any personal information associated with your subscription.
Location services
The App uses your device's location services for geofencing and location-based reminders. This location data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third-party servers (except Apple's iCloud if you enable sync).
How your information is used
All data processing occurs locally on your device. The App uses your information to:
- Provide and maintain the App's core functionality, including location-based reminders
- Enable geofencing features that trigger reminders when you arrive at or leave specific locations
- Sync your data across your devices using iCloud (if you enable this feature)
We do not have access to or use your personal information for any purpose. We only receive anonymized subscription status information from Apple to verify active subscriptions, which is necessary for the App's subscription features.
Data storage and security
Local storage
Your data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData, Apple's data persistence framework.
iCloud sync
With your permission, your data may be synced to your iCloud account using CloudKit. This allows you to access your data across multiple devices. iCloud sync is subject to Apple's iCloud Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
Encryption
Your data is protected by iOS data protection on your device: the App's storage is encrypted at rest with keys tied to your device passcode, and the arrival history file is additionally protected until you first unlock the device after a restart. If you enable iCloud sync, your data travels to and rests in your personal iCloud account under Apple's iCloud encryption (end-to-end if you have turned on Advanced Data Protection for your Apple Account). We hold no encryption key and no copy of your data, so there is nothing on our side that could be decrypted, lost or disclosed.
Subscriptions and your data
A Pro subscription unlocks additional features. It never gates access to your own data: every saved place remains readable, editable, exportable and deletable on the free plan, and if a subscription lapses nothing is removed.
Third-party services
The App uses the following third-party services:
Apple services
- iCloud/CloudKit: for data synchronization across your devices
- StoreKit: for managing subscription purchases and payments
- CoreLocation: for location services and geofencing
- MapKit: for displaying maps and location information
- UserNotifications: for delivering arrival reminders and the weekly recap on your device
All Apple services are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We do not control how Apple collects, uses, or shares your information through these services.
Data sharing and disclosure
We do not collect your personal information, so there is nothing for us to share, sell, or disclose.
Your data is stored locally on your device and, if you enable iCloud sync, synced to your personal iCloud account. This sync is handled entirely by Apple and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud data.
The only information we receive is anonymized subscription status information from Apple's StoreKit service, which is necessary to verify active subscriptions. This information does not include any personal details or location data.
Your rights and choices
Location permissions
You can control location permissions through your device's Settings. The App requires location permissions to provide geofencing and location-based reminder features.
iCloud sync
You can disable iCloud sync at any time through your device's Settings. Disabling iCloud sync will prevent your data from being synced across devices, but your local data will remain on your device.
Filling a place from Contacts
The App can fill a place's details from a contact you choose. It uses Apple's contact picker, which runs outside the App and returns only the single card you select; the App never requests Contacts permission and never reads your address book. The details copied (name, phone, email, family members, address) are stored with the place exactly like details you type.
Arrival history
When the App delivers an arrival reminder, it records that reminder — and whether you opened, snoozed or dismissed it — in a small log kept only on your device. This log is never synced to iCloud and never transmitted anywhere. It is capped (at most 500 entries, 90 days), is deleted for a place when you delete that place, and is deleted entirely when you use "Delete everything" or remove the App.
Data export
You can export everything the App stores about your places as a JSON, CSV or vCard file from Settings → Privacy & your data. The file is created on your device and handed to the system share sheet; where it goes from there is your choice.
Data access and deletion
You can access, modify, or delete your data directly within the App. To delete all data:
- Delete individual location entries within the App
- Delete the App from your device (this will remove local data)
- Manage your iCloud data through your device's Settings if you have enabled iCloud sync
Subscription management
You can manage your subscription through the App Store on your device. Subscription purchases are processed by Apple and subject to Apple's Terms of Service.
Children's privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. Since we do not collect personal information from anyone, including children, there is no data for us to delete. All data remains on the user's device and in their iCloud account, which can be managed directly through the device settings.
International data transfers
We do not transfer your data because we do not collect it. However, if you enable iCloud sync, your data will be stored on Apple's servers, which may be located in different countries. This transfer is handled entirely by Apple and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. By enabling iCloud sync, you consent to Apple's handling of your data in accordance with their policies.
Data retention
We do not retain any of your personal information because we never collect it. All data is stored on your device and in your iCloud account (if sync is enabled). You have complete control over your data:
- When you delete data from the App, it is removed from your device
- If you have enabled iCloud sync, you may need to delete data from iCloud separately through your device's Settings
- Deleting the App removes all local data from your device
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the App and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you have certain rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). However, since we do not collect your personal information, these rights are not applicable:
- We do not collect personal information, so there is no information to access or delete
- We do not sell personal information because we do not collect it
- All your data remains on your device and in your iCloud account, which you control completely
European privacy rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Since we do not collect or process your personal data, these rights are exercised through your device and iCloud account:
- We do not process your personal data, so there is no data for us to provide, rectify, or erase
- All your data is stored locally on your device and in your iCloud account, which you control directly
- You can access, modify, or delete your data at any time through the App or your device's Settings
